From Michale Parkes: Mythology tells us that Danae was the sole daughter of Acrisius of Argos. An oracle had told Acrisius that one day Danae’s son would kill him. So terrified was he by this prediction that he locked up his young daughter, Danae, in a tower.  But Zeus had already seen her and was enamored with the beautiful maiden. By disguising himself as a shower of gold, he was able to enter her chamber several times. The drawing depicts Danae waiting for Zeus, her lover and the father of her son.
