In Yellow Butterflies, Michael Parkes captures a moment of luminous serenity suspended between earth and sky. A graceful figure, robed in flowing gold and patterned with delicate butterflies, steps lightly along the edge of a dreamscape cliff, her expression gentle and entranced. Around her, golden butterflies drift upward like whispered thoughts, while a watchful leopard rests below—its silent power anchoring the ethereal scene. The juxtaposition of the fierce and the fragile, the grounded and the airborne, evokes a quiet strength beneath beauty. As always, Parkes invites us into a world where the mystical is rendered tangible, and symbolism speaks through silence.
Michael Parkes is an American artist who resides in Spain and primarily works in the realm of Magical Realism. He has produced a large body of work over his 50 year career, including painting, drawing, sculpture, stone lithography, and limited edition giclee prints. His artworks are found in the collections of celebrities, discerning private patrons, and galleries spanning the globe.
In June of 2024, Michael Parkes announced he would be semi-retiring to spend more time with his loved ones. On August 15th, 2024, the last of the Michael Parkes Fine Art Editions were sold to collectors, ending the supply of new authorized limited editions of his work.
